Appointments

We all have them.  Sometimes a bunch of them.  Too many if you ask me.  Appointments that is.  Work, School, Doctor’s – why we even came up with technology that schedules, reminds and tracks us to keep on task.  The Corona Virus has sure changed some of that.  How we do our appointments and maybe we even realized that not all of those appointment times were really needed.

But there is one appointment we all have and this one can’t be re-scheduled or cancelled.  Yes, I am talking about THAT one.  The end of our journey in this life.  Hebrews 9 tells us that “It is appointed for men once to do die…”
I know.  Where’s the normal goofy humor I usually write about.  No one wants a depressing blog thought.  Hang on, hear me out.
As I recently approached the final day of my job of over 20 years due to an office closure, I was fortunate enough to know the last day well in advance. I had an opportunity to give friends and co-workers a final goodbye and in a few words of an email tell them how much I had learned from them and appreciated them.
Made me think.  We don’t always get the chance for a final email.  Our lives are directed by a divine plan that we don’t always understand.  We’ve all lost loved ones suddenly and didn’t get to say goodbye.  Even when we do, we fail miserably.  I had the chance to spend the last few hours at my Mom’s bedside but couldn’t think of what to say to her.
So maybe, knowing we all have THAT Appointment, don’t wait for that last email to express your feelings to those around you, something I have been so guilty of.  Tell them.  We have technology, Video Chat, Emails, Texts, and yes the Post Office is still delivering cards.
Better yet, SHOW them.  A small gift, a meal, picking up a chore or 2.  Just some quiet time sitting on the porch with someone is something we’ve forgotten how to do.
Appointments. It’s a big part of our lives.  We have one that can’t be changed.  So, make a very important appointment today.  Ask Siri or Alexa to help you if needed.  Make an appointment to show or tell those closest to you that they are just that – closest to you!
